PMUK – Highlights & Technical Developments

The first PM plastering machines were introduced in London in 1962, subsequently distributors tried
selling them, but with modest success. When PM was successful selling its new concrete pumps to
the German Ready Mix Company two directors of RMC in the UK formed a company called
PUTZKRET and in 1970 introduced the successful water hydraulic driven concrete pumps – one of the
first units sold to POCHIN in Middlewich. After Putzkret discontinued and a local mining machinery
distributor was not successful the only way was to start ourselves - then Putzmeister Ltd was formed
in February 1974.

Working from just two small rented buildings near Matlock in Derbyshire. It was here that the first BLF
concrete pumps for the UK were mounted, followed in 1975 by assembly of the first Mixokret. Over the
next few years further small buildings were rented to accommodate the expanding business until in
1981 it was decided to purchase a site in Chesterfield where construction started early in 1982.
With the building completed in November the entire
operation moved from Matlock to Chesterfield in one
weekend, and was open for business on the Monday
morning.

It was not until June 1983 that we had the official opening,
attended by local dignitaries, Karl Schlecht and the guest of
honour was world record athlete Sebastian Coe, now Lord
Coe who is heading up the London 2012 Olympics.

In 1986 the “City Pump”  was conceived to meet demand
for a compact manoeuvrable pump to service smaller jobs,
and to attract new entrants into the pumping industry. The first units were assembled in1987 by
PMUK, and in later years by PM Italy. It used a BSF1005 pump and 13m boom mounted on an 8
tonne GVW- chassis, for subsequent units the 16 metre boom was
standard. Over the next three years 24 units were assembled and
sold in the UK, but its continued success was curtailed by a deep
recession in UK construction. Whilst the concept has evolved over the
years small concrete pumps with 16 metre booms still feature in most
UK pump hire fleets.
It was in 1993 that PMUK
achieved ISO 9002
certification for the quality
management system.

In 1997 UK customers
were demanding hydraulic
drive on Mixokrets rather
than the belt drive then
available from the
Putzmeister range. In
response to this PMUK designed and built the M3250 HD, Putzmeister’s first cost effective hydrauli–
cally driven Mixokret. This commitment to our customers was rewarded with the sale of 110 units in
the following three and a half years until it was replaced by the M760 HD.
At the same time we were cooperating with PM IB to
meet customer requirements for a simple BSA1005
- minimum electrics, simple two-lever control, water
cooled engine and a special door configuration. The
first unit was supplied in 1998, and in 2007 PMUK
took delivery of the 100th unit from PM IB. Whilst the
pump has undergone some changes over that pe-
riod the basic design has stood the test of time, with
good prospects for the future.

In 2004 PMUK started work in cooperation with a
major customer to find the cause and true nature of
end hose ‘whiplash’. This is a relatively common problem which occasionally results in a violent reac–
tion in the hose with potential to cause serious injury. The underlying problem was successfully identi–
fied, and a practical solution designed and tested, this was taken through a number of development
stages by PMUK before the concept was passed to PM AG for further development with hose manu-
facturers – resulting the SH Hose.

Moving up to present PMUK has been working on a line pump concept to address the small builder
and domestic applications. The RoLine concrete pump was designed by PMUK to address the specific
needs of this market.

  • Use of a rotary pump virtually eliminates residual concrete, and is easy to clean
  • The unit has big displacement with its 125mm squeeze hose for soft pumping and long life,
offering low operating pressure of just 25 bar for safe to use lightweight 100 - 65 mm delivery
line, easy handling and quick set-up
  • In operation the pump runs quietly with remote controlled infinitely variable flow
  • With the vacuum drum it is capable of pumping a wide variety of mixes - coarse 32 mm ready
mix concrete, shotcrete, piling mixes, free flowing floor screed, foam and lightweight mixes,
stiff mixes, even water and air for cleaning out.
  • Small footprint and low hopper height for Mini-mixer deliveries.
Mounted on a compact manoeuvrable truck chassis, the sturdy diesel driven unit first pumped con-
crete November 2007 and has continued to prove itself finding more and more friends with its out-
standing typical City Pump features.

RoLine concrete pumps are now operating successfully in the UK and France -all in all a pump to fall
in love with--- and that is all you need.
